Garden of Literacy Brunch & Silent Auction 2019

Our 4th Annual Garden of Literacy Brunch & Silent Auction raised nearly $18,000 in support of our free literacy programs. Thank you to everyone who contributed to make this special event a tremendous success: guests, volunteers, sponsors, in-kind donors who contributed to our one-of-a-kind silent auction, the Cobalt Quartet, and the attentive staff at The Olde Mill Inn.

The 2019 Outstanding Service Award was given in loving memory of longtime LVSC volunteer and leader, Martha Davis. The award was presented to Martha's sons, Bryan and Tim Davis.

Martha began her LVSC service as a tutor in 2002. She moved on to running a conversation group and then chaired several event committees. Before long, Martha joined the LVSC Board and in 2008 was named Board President - a role she held until her sudden passing in 2018. During her 16 years of selfless dedication to LVSC, Martha provided wise leadership, gentle guidance, and caring friendship. She is greatly missed, but never forgotten, among those who knew her.

Student Spotlight

“This is a wonderful program, and what I think is really good about it is the one-to-one sessions. Because talking with your tutor one-on-one allows you to discuss your needs. I feel like this way, I'm sure I learn what I need.”
