Tutor Spotlights
Meet Vicki, 2023 Volunteer of the Year
Spotlight on Vicki
Vicki brings a big smile to her tutoring sessions and English conversation group. She is also the student newsletter advisor!
Thank you, Vicki, for all you do for LVSC!
Vicki became an LVSC tutor only a year and half ago. Right away, we saw that she was an amazing tutor, creating a safe and happy learning environment for her students.
Vicki next expressed interest in running an English conversation group, and after visiting some of our existing groups, she stepped up to lead a group at the Hillsborough Library (while still working with two separate one-to-one students). Her weekly Tuesday afternoon group is beloved by her dedicated students who enjoy coming together to laugh and learn in the library.
When we asked Vicki to consider the role of Tutor Advisor for our Student Outreach Committee and oversee the student newsletter, Connections, she didn’t hesitate. Working with a group of dedicated students, they publish an amazing collection of student writings three times a year. Connections is read and enjoyed by the entire LVSC community. You can read past issues of Connections here.
Student Nadezda, who takes the lead in preparing the newsletter, says of Vicki:
When I received this great opportunity to improve my English writing and communication skills, I initially thought that I couldn’t do it. But Vicki’s positive attitude gave me confidence in what I was doing. She challenged me to reach higher and further than I thought I could, while at the same time offering grace, kindness, and compassion to support me in any hard situation. Thank you, Vicki, from the bottom of my heart.
In addition, Vicki can always be counted on to attend LVSC events and support our program in every capacity. For going above and beyond for LVSC, and always with a warm smile and huge heart, we were proud to present her with the 2023 Volunteer of the Year award.
