Tutor Spotlights
Meet Katie, March 2026 Tutor of the Month
Spotlight on Katie
Katie learned about LVSC several years ago but just last year finally had the flexibility to tutor. Her first year flew by!
Congratulations to Katie Singh, March 2026 Tutor of the Month!
Katie has been tutoring Rupavani for one year, both in-person and on Zoom. They start their sessions by talking about their weekends, and through that exchange, Katie has learned about many wonderful Southern Indian traditions and Hindu festivals. She helps to build Rupavani’s confidence by role-playing dialogs before Rupavani puts them into action. With practice, Rupavani was able to order pizza over the phone for her son’s birthday party and call to ask library personnel if the library was open.
LVSC Journey: I completed the training program in early 2025 and began tutoring in February 2025.
What motivated you to become an LVSC volunteer? I had stumbled across the program many years ago at the Bridgewater library (they were having an informational session). At the time, I didn’t have the flexibility in my schedule to attend the training sessions, but I kept it in the back of my mind that I’d do this someday.
Inspiring LVSC Moment: I have truly appreciated working with Rupavani all year. I am inspired by her dedication and motivation each time we meet.
Day Job: I work as a freelance scientific director and writer.
Hobbies: Hiking, reading and music.
Favorite Quote: There are countless quotes and lyrics that I love, but here’s one I’ve been thinking about a lot lately: “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” – attributed to Frederick Douglass.
Favorite Food: That’s a tough one since I love all kinds of food, and it depends on my mood! My mom’s aloo paratha with her homemade yogurt and some mango achar is one of my favorite comfort foods.
Favorite Book: Another super difficult question for me. I love a broad range of genres, and I am always reading. Near impossible to point to a favorite, but most recently I enjoyed the charming memoir Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton.
R&R Spot: Out in nature, whether seaside, lakeside or in the mountains, all are lovely.
