Spotlight on Linda

“Becoming a literacy volunteer was one of the better decisions of my life.”

Congratulations to Linda Choplick, LVSC's 2026 Volunteer of the Year!

The Volunteer of the Year award is given to an outstanding volunteer whose service goes above and beyond their tutoring commitment.

From the moment Linda joined LVSC in the fall of 2022, she has been a dedicated and enthusiastic supporter of every aspect of our organization.  In addition to one-to-one tutoring, she donates her time and talents to LVSC in other ways. She is a student assessor who helps incoming students feel welcomed and comfortable when they come for their English test. She attends our fundraising events and has generously donated the very popular cat basket and beach basket for our Garden of Literacy basket auction. This past winter, she stepped up as a substitute conversation group leader, conducting Saturday morning sessions at the Franklin Township library. And, Linda is hoping to lead her very own conversation group this fall.

In reflecting on her time as a volunteer, Linda said:

In the past four years, I have done one-on-one tutoring, assessments for potential students, and have lead conversation groups. I have found each of these to be so gratifying due to the students I have met and worked with.

Linda and Ines.Linda has worked with her present student, Ines, for the past three years.  In addition to English literacy, she has helped Ines navigate culture in the U.S. and worked with her to obtain her driver’s license.  Ines’ moving introduction of Linda at our Annual Meeting revealed how much tutor and student care about each other and what a wonderful relationship they have cultivated.

While it is about learning, it is also about having fun.  You know a session is going well when you hear the laughter.  And when a session is over, be it one-on-one or with a group, I always get thank yous.  I truly appreciate this, but I always feel I should be thanking the students for showing up and adding so much satisfaction to my life. -Linda

You deserve the "thank you," Linda, on behalf of LVSC and the many lives you have enriched by sharing your time, talent, and treasure.
