Meet Bryant Wong, Tutor of the Month
Spotlight on Bryant
With parents from Vietnam, Bryant understands the importance of English literacy. He enjoys helping others learn English.
Congratulations to Bryant, December 2024 Tutor of the Month!
Bryant is working with a student whose goal is to find a job in her field, arts and crafts, in 2025. To help her learn vocabulary related to her search, Bryant used ChatGPT to write an article on filigree, which is the art of twisting and making intricate, detailed metal jewelry. Bryant also uses resources from the tutor-training textbook and LVSC website for his lessons. He reports that his student has “come a long way in a short amount of time!”
Learn more about Bryant:
LVSC Journey: I became an LVSC volunteer in July 2024. I am part of the first generation born in the U.S. in my family, with my mom and dad immigrating from Vietnam. Growing up, my parents would sometimes lean on me to translate or interpret letters for them. I understood the importance of English literacy and what the challenges are for somebody to live here without understanding English. So I want to give back to the community and help others the same way.
Day Job: I am a Customer Success Manager at a life sciences consulting firm.
Hobbies/Passions/Pastimes: I enjoy playing video games, going to the gym and attending music concerts.
Favorite Quote: “Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.” -Batman Begins (2005)
Favorite Food: A well-cooked, medium-rare steak.
Favorite Book: How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. To me, this is the best book on self-teaching proper social interaction. I feel that the principles covered are common knowledge already; this book just acts as a friendly reminder to practice those principles in daily life and be kind to people.
R&R Spot: I had the pleasure of going to Hawaii on vacation for the first time early this year. We stayed in Oahu and Maui. It was the best and I still occasionally find myself daydreaming of being back there.
