Congratulations to Beth, January 2025 Tutor of the Month!
Beth has tutored several students since she started as an LVSC volunteer in the fall of 2021. She focuses her lessons on practical uses of English, such as how to call in sick to work, ordering food at a drive-thru, asking for directions, going to the doctor and speaking with staff at the grocery store.
Learn more about Beth:
LVSC Journey: I completed the Tutor Training in September of 2021. I had seen an ad in the local paper and decided that this was a way that I could give back to the community. I also love to meet people from different countries and learn about their cultures.
Proud LVSC Moment: I think it was when one of my beginner students decided to submit her writing to the LVSC newsletter. It was a challenge for her but she did it and it was a lovely essay about spring.
Day Job: I’m a Customer Relationship Management manager in the IT department of a local manufacturing company.
Hobbies: I like to craft – cross-stitch, diamond dot paint and sew to name a few. I’m a big movie fan – I like mysteries, action films and inspirational stories based on real people’s experiences. I enjoy the outdoors – walking and hiking.
Favorite Quote: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” -Mahatma Gandhi.
Favorite Food: I enjoy all kinds of food especially foods that use spices in different and flavorful ways.
Favorite Book: The Harry Potter books are still some of my favorites.
R&R Spot: Being by the water is a very relaxing place for me. The sound of the water is very soothing especially when it’s a sunny day and I have sand in my toes!
