Board Member Spotlights

Janice Cmielewski, MPS, is the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ). Bringing over 20 years of marketing expertise from the telecommunications and technology sectors, Janice is dedicated to amplifying SCLSNJ's reach and ensuring the community is aware of its invaluable resources. Her passion lies in showcasing the library's diverse services and programs. With a Master’s in Design Management from Pratt Institute and a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design from The College of New Jersey, Janice combines her creative and strategic skills to advance SCLSNJ's mission. A lifelong library enthusiast, she's a dedicated reader of both fiction and non-fiction.

LVSC Journey: I joined the LVSC board in October 2025 after attending an LVSC fundraising event. I was inspired by the student speaker who had the courage to share her journey, in English, to a large crowd of people.

Day Job: In January 2025 I started working at the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey as Director of Marketing and Public Relations. Before that I spent over 20 years in the telecommunications and technology sectors in various marketing roles.

Favorite Quote: "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.” It is attributed to Norman Vincent Peale, an American psychologist and minister known for his advocacy of positive thinking.

Passions & Pastimes: I love to walk my chocolate lab, Lainey, every morning before the sun comes up when the day is still quiet and peaceful, curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee, and spending time outdoors with my family whether it is at the beach, hiking, playing catch or sitting around a fire pit, as long as I am with my family, I am happiest. 

Favorite Food: Homemade spaghetti and meatballs.

Best Book Ever: I like Elin Hilderbrand for a good beach read and have gotten into Emily Henry recently, especially since many of the characters in her books are involved in the literary world. 

R&R Spot: Love Cape May. We took many summer vacations with my children when they were very young, enjoying the beach, shopping and restaurants. They are some of my favorite memories.
