How We Help
We train volunteers to teach English.
Our volunteer tutors are friendly, helpful people. They can help you:
- Learn English
- Improve your reading and writing skills
- Study for U.S. citizenship
- Prepare for college and job training entrance tests
- Prepare for a job interview
What You Can Expect
Lessons are free.
Lessons are for adults who live in Somerset County, New Jersey.
Lessons are one hour or more every week.
Lessons are online on video chat, or in a public place like the library.
There will be homework. Learning English takes time and practice.
We want to help you.
Tutoring & Classes
You will meet with a tutor every week. The tutor is a volunteer who will teach you everyday English skills. You can also practice speaking English in a group or take a class about becoming a U.S. citizen.
Please note: tutors and students can meet face-to-face in a public place, or remotely using video chat, or a combination of both.
If you have questions about LVSC, the training, or anything else, please call us at (908) 725-5430 or email us at info@literacysomerset.org.
LVSC is a volunteer-driven non-profit which is funded through donations, grants, and event proceeds. Donations stay local and help us to recruit and train volunteers to teach English literacy. We are not a government organization.
