Spotlight on Ana, Carol, Fanny and Stefannia

Four strong and courageous women, Ana, Carol, Fanny and Stefannia have been learning weekly on Zoom for more than two years.

Congratulations to Ana, Carol, Fanny, and Stefannia, LVSC 2024 Students of the Year!

This amazing group of four women has worked diligently together for more than two years. In that time, they have achieved many personal goals -- like getting better jobs, communicating with doctors, and learning computer skills. But what stands out most is their camaraderie, work ethic, and focus.

Their dedicated and proud tutor, Tammy, introduced the students at LVSC's Annual Meeting and Recognition Night:

During our "Jobs" unit, we learned about the soft skills that employers value. These personal qualities are what have made these students so successful in my class.

Tammy continued by giving examples of the wonderful qualities our award winners bring to class each and every week:

They are tremendously hard-working. They come to class no matter how tired or busy they are. They are self-motivated and always willing to learn. Every summer they've had the choice to take a break from lessons—well, this will be our third summer we are having class!

They have good interpersonal skills. They are respectful of and empathetic with each other's differences. They always bring to class a positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning.

They are independent and responsible. If they miss a class, they will view the Zoom recording and complete the work on their own. They are always prepared with their materials and homework.

Ana, Carol, Fanny and Stefannia were excited to be honored with the Students of the Year award, and shared a little bit about themselves:

Ana: I’m from Peru. I moved to New Jersey in 2008. I like New Jersey because I’m near the school, the park, and the pool. For my twins, it’s very safe here. My yard is big. My home is perfect for my family. My neighbors are friendly.

Carol: I'm from Colombia. I moved to New Jersey in 2021. I like New Jersey because it has green forests and beautiful rivers and beaches. My family likes to walk around the forests and swim in the ocean. I like the town I live in because it is safe and quiet. I like my job because I learn different things. I love New Jersey because I can learn English.

Fanny: I’m from Colombia. I moved to New Jersey in 2019. I like New Jersey because it is quiet and very safe. I have a forest around my apartment. My children play soccer outside our apartment. I meet very nice people who help me with English.

Stefannia: I'm from Colombia. I moved to New Jersey three years ago. I like living in New Jersey because I'm near the school, the park, and the pool. It's very safe here. In New Jersey my home is comfortable, and my neighbors are friendly. It's beautiful outside my apartment. It's very green and I can see the trees.

It is clear why Tammy says that tutoring them is the high point of her week!

LVSC is pleased to recognize Ana, Carol, Fanny, and Stefannia's accomplishments and eager to follow their continued success.
