About Literacy Volunteers

The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County is to promote literacy in the community through student-centered tutoring for adults.

Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County (LVSC) is an accredited affiliate of ProLiteracy America, a non-profit organization that promotes literacy through a network of community volunteer programs.

Since 1981, Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County (LVSC) has been providing free, one-to-one and small group tutoring to functionally illiterate adults through a network of volunteers trained in Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages. A major misconception is that the organization only helps people learn to read. Just simple forms of communication that include reading, writing, listening and speaking skills are part of the world of literacy.
